5SOS 4 is finally coming with CALM. We are screaming. Nobody talk to us. We need time to process. CALM will be released in 50 days. Yes, we counted. Don’t judge us.
Yesterday, 5 Seconds Of Summer released a trailer for their upcoming album. Happiness can officially be packed into 1 minute 13 seconds.
The tracklisting for CALM will be as follows:
1. Red Desert 2. No Shame 3. Old Me 4. Easier 5. Teeth 6. Wildflower 7. Best Years 8. Not In The Same Way 9. Lover Of Mine 10. Thin White Lies 11. Lonely Heart 12. High
Not only can we get a deluxe version of CALM with vault versions of “Easier“, “Teeth” and “No Shame”, but there are also cassettes, hoodies, signed cards, and everyone’s favorite bucket hat. We’d advise you to get the Box Set Bundle, but we really want to get that ourselves before it sells out. So…
As the only band in chart history to see their first three full-length studio albums enter the Billboard 200 at No. 1, we expect nothing less from our favorite Australians this time around.
For a band to make it to four albums is no small feat in itself but to be reinventing and constantly pushing our songwriting and to come out with music that we’ve never been more proud of makes me so happy to be in 5 Seconds of Summer. CALM speaks on a journey through a young man’s life, for better or for worse. We are all human and all make mistakes, sometimes we hurt the ones we love and inevitably, ourselves in the process. CALM leaves the band in a much happier, unified and calm state of mind to continue making albums for years to come.
On this day, 24 years ago, one of the greatest people in the world was born! Michael Clifford of 5 Seconds of Summer, along with his bandmates of course, has touched so many fans lives in the past 8 years.
So we asked the 5SOSFam to submit their special Michael stories and reasons why they love him, and of course the responses came flooding!
This article is for Michael, from the fans. We love you more than words can express!
I was in North Carolina waiting for meet 5SOS and the one and only thing that makes me nervous is Michael. Ugh but everything was fine and conversation wasn’t awkward! I asked him to flip off my camera and he was like “????” and I said “Michael stick your middle finger up for the picture.” LMAO. It went well and it’s my favorite selfie with him.
I love him because he is a talented king with amazing vocals and he’s a great guitarist UGH in this essay I will explain why he’s the loml….
I had issues with friends growing up , but Michael and the rest of the band were always there for me and always my shoulders to cry on and songs to listen to at my ups and downs
Michael, your smile can make even the grumpiest people crack even a little one. You project your love for the fans on the biggest screen, you truly get your message across that you love u. Not to mention you totally shred on guitar. Your goofiness taught me that it’s okay to be myself and that people would accept me for me, and that maybe not everyone will laugh at my jokes but it’s okay to laugh at my own even if no one else is. You are truly something special, we love you so much :).
My favorite Michael interaction is when I met him and Luke at the airport in like 2014 and I was nervous to talk to them so I was like I can take the picture even though Luke offered so like Michael had to bend down really awkwardly cause I’m short and like I’m really sorry bro. But we got to redo the selfie a few times more in the future so it’s all cool 😎😹
I love him because every time time I have met him, he has always seemed more happy to see me then I am to see him and you’d think that was impossible. He always makes sure to give his full attention and tries to meet as many fans as he can. He is literally a total sweet heart and gives the best hugs. (Sorry Calum).
I found 5SOS when I had just turned 14. I am now almost 19 and can fully say they have made a tremendous impact on me. Michael has a vibrant personality and his caring heart shines through to his fans and through the music. I have seen them twice and both times he put his whole heart into the words and songs he presented to us. Thank you Michael! <3
I love him because of his open heart and his extremely loving soul!
Michael is such a kind and caring person he makes sure all his fans know that they’re each individually appreciated and loved. He is very aware of mental health issues and I would consider him and advocate for it. He understands everyone’s struggles and makes us feel like we’re not alone and apart of something. His songwriting has spoken to me in so many ways and has gotten me through some of my darkest times.
I met him on halloween nights at the Dallas show (WWJ) and he was an absolute angel!! He talked to me about my tattoo and his and it was so so nice talking to him!!
I love him because he’s so caring and sweet and down to earth.
I saw Michael at the 5SOS show Nov. 6 and he was just the sweetest and funniest guy on stage. He rocked out so hard it made me happy. He seemed to enjoy himself a bit more than half the fans there, I’d that’s possible. Michael even mispronounced the city name on purpose and that in its self is something I will remember forever.
I love him because he seems to push himself above and beyond expectations. He’s funny and a very interesting guy. He seems like someone you want to be friends with, with only knowing the social media side of things. Seeing him do his thing at a show just brings out the fun rocking guy he truly is. I’m proud to be a fan of his.
Michael has always been such a rock for me. I met him this year, and he was such a sweetheart. He gave me a hug and asked how I was doing before we took our picture. Before I left he gave me such a tight squeeze and said he couldn’t wait to see me out in the crowd.
I love him because he’s absolutely amazing and deserves the absolute world!
I’ve been a fan of the band for almost 7 years now, but in the last 2 months Michael has done so much for me. I was always watching my friends have the best experiences at shows, and get noticed on Twitter, but never thought that would be me. By some miracle though, Michael wished me a happy birthday and followed me in September after being inactive for ages, and I didn’t think it could get better than that. But now here we are at the beginning of November, and I’ve gotten to dance 3 nights in a row with him, have gotten the tattoo I’ve always wanted written out by him, and have gotten to give Michael the biggest hug ever. He didn’t have to click on my follow button, he didn’t have to come back and meet us at the airport as he was late to check in for his flight, and he certainly didn’t have to hype my friends and I up every night when he saw us. He does all of that because he truly loves us, and the fans, and not many people can get to call their favorite band member their friend but we all can.
I love Michael because he always goes out of his way to make others happy.
This post contains sensitive material.
Michael Clifford helped me realize that even the people I look up to struggle and that it’s ok not to be ok all the time. He is also a really big reason that I am almost a year self harm free.
I love him because he isn’t afraid to be dorky and he geeks out sometimes which I find adorable!
There was one time where he tweeted “send me pictures of dogs” and i was the first person he tweeted “DOG” to and it was just a really funny interaction.
I love him because he is genuinely one of the best people on this planet. He’s so so so kind and humble and I LOVE talking to him. He’s always so smiley and always does the most for the fans. He gets it so much & he makes me so happy daily. His energy on stage is insane I LOVE watching him perform. He genuinely has one of the best personalities out there and always makes you feel safe and at home and I’ll love him forever.
I think it was back at the start of middle school where I was beginning to struggle mentally. I never had access to any help because my mother is completely positive that I’m overreacting. He became my home, the only person I knew I could return to when things went wrong. Knowing he was able to keep going when things went downhill, keeps me going today.
I love him because he is different. He’s not afraid to be himself. He makes me thinking of myself a lot and I can always relate to him. He’s so beautiful in every aspect and his kindness is one of my favourite things about him. He takes the time to show his love to each and every fan he meets.
I’ve met Michael twice and he’s always been the sweetest! The first time I met him he told me I had cool hair because it had blue in it and the second time he gave me such a big hug and was just so kind.
I love him because he’s so soft. He’s literally always so sweet to his fans and he’s also a rockstar on stage. I love watching that dude do his thing and kill it at every show.
I lost my Granny thanks to hospital “mistakes”. I was in a really bad place watching Michael on the old livestreams and twitch streams helped me remember who I was, and for the 1st time in a very long time i laughed. Laughed just like my Granny. Thank you, Michael. Happy Birthday!
This isn’t really a story, but like I’m actually obsessed with 5SOS and like just listening to their music makes me so much happier when I’m upset. Just like thank you for existing and also your dogs are adorable. You have an amazing voice and you are so good at guitar!!!
Michael has helped me in so many ways. He has never actually noticed me on Twitter but I was barricade on his side for the Halloween show in Dallas and his stage presence is absolutely everything. He was so interactive with us and even said we were losing our minds in the pit. I met him after that show and he was the absolute sweetest. He stopped and took pictures with everyone for about 30 minutes and talked to everyone. He was the one who asked for a picture too which I thought was cute and sweet. I honestly do not even know how to explain how he’s helped me outside of this experience though. But he has helped me become more confident with myself and helped me learn that it is okay to not be okay. I love him so much and could never thank him enough for the things he has done for me.
I love Michael because he has helped me truly find myself. He has also helped me realize how okay it is to not be okay and how to love who I am. I love how sweet and soft he is with fans too, he does not have to stop to talk to us and interact with us but he does. He made sure everyone had a photo even before he left. He is just the biggest sweetheart I know and I honestly have no idea what I’d do if I never found 5SOS.
I was depressed, self harming and found songs from 5SOS that made me feel happy, I looked up the band. I saw that Michael used to self harm and I remember feeling sad because I was still doing it and he stopped for the fans(i think). This made me stop and basically he saved my life and I am forever grateful.
I love him because he is just so precious and kind!
He is such a good genuine person. I met him and I melted in his arms. Hugging him is like hugging an old friend who you haven’t seen in a really long time even if it’s your first time meeting him. He talks to you and actually listens. An actual angel.
I love Michael because his love for us fans, his beautiful kind eyes, and his hugs <3
I’ve met Michael a few times, never gotten a picture or anything but had conversations and received a few hugs (his are the best). He always has a smile on his face and goes out of his way to see us, make time for us and just say “hi.” The couple times I’ve spoke to him have been really personal and prove convos but I just want to thank him and wish him the happiest of birthdays 🖤
I love him because he has always inspired me to keep going and never give up, I know he’s gone through a lot and how he manages to keep going for us and always put a smile on his face and say hi and put on shows amazes me. I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done for me. Especially giving us “Jet Black Heart”.
I created the fan project to get Michael a Gibson SG guitar. On Sept 21st 2018 in Charlotte, NC he received it and wrote out a thank you note to everyone who helped donate. After that, he played it for the rest of tour when they would perform MYT as he went into the crowd. Then later on, he paid it forward to Kelsey Blackham, a girl in hospice care who deserves the world. All the of the guys also signed the guitar as well <3
The first time I met 5SOS was in NYC and I remember being so nervous to do or say anything, but Michael was so patient and understanding. I felt so comfortable being able to talk with him then, and every other time since I met him. He was so kind and that will always be something I remember.
Michael has the kindest heart and sweetest soul of anyone I’ve ever met. He’s patient, and so incredibly kind to everyone he meets.
Michael has probably always been my favorite. From the colored hair, skinny jeans, anime and video game loving nerd he is, I found a connection I adore to this day. Music is poetry and I’m all about words. I found acceptance and a space to love myself, found the band at a time where I was lost and transitioning from high school into college. I found 4 infectious, fun loving guys that loved each other and Michael has always stood out above the rest.
Where to begin though? I love him because of his fashion sense, which has grown so much. His hair styles are on point. Anime, music, and video game tastes are top notch. What’s not to love? I can’t speak much since I haven’t met him but he seems like the chillest funniest person to be around.
He always knows how to be there for his fans when they need him. He is so selfless and really cares about his fans.
I love him because he speaks out about a lot of important issues. He writes songs that mean a lot to so many people and are a home for a lot of his fans. He really puts special emphasis on things that his fans create as well which is really heartwarming.
Michael has helped me over the years understand that even when times are bad you still can keep your head up, he smiled at me and a friend of mine and that really made my day.
I love him because he’s so sweet and kind, funny , amazing person. Him and Crystal are so cute together in excited for them to get married! 🙂 He interacts with his fans, tells them to pet moose which is adorable.
Michael has helped me feel much better about myself when he mentioned on stage about seeing a therapist and that made me realize that it’s not a bad thing to get help if you need it.
I love Michael because he doesn’t try and change who he is to please anyone. I love how he handles the fans against his relationship. I’m so happy that he’s happy within himself, his band, and his relationship. I hope one day to meet him and tell him to his face how much of an amazing person he is.
I’ve never met Michael but i’ve seen him and the band live a lot of times and the energy and love he gave me just by singing and playing the guitar is unreal. He makes me feel heard, loved and cared for, he’s overall the nicest person I know and I’m so lucky I found out who he is 7 years ago and I’ve been growing up with him since.
I love Michael because he’s the nicest and most genuine person I know.
One of the main reasons I love Michael is the fact that even after all this time he’s still so uniquely himself. He’s such a dork online and it’s nice seeing someone just be goofy online about random stuff or interacting with fans. He’s also so insanely talented it’s crazy. Every time I see a video of him playing guitar it blows my mind how incredible he is as a musician. He is someone who really deserves all the good that has come his way from how he treats fans and the skill he possesses!
I’ve met him 3 times and I’m so excited to see him next month because I won an actual m&g. But each time he was so sweet and my heart melted. Meeting someone you really admire can be nerve wracking because they usually don’t have a lot of time or have a lot of people trying to get their attention so it was so lovely how each time he did his best to be in the moment. I miss him so much and he is so precious.
I love him because his big green eyes. How when you meet him, he gives you his full attention. And how hugging him feels like the safest and coziest thing. How he’s so enthusiastic when fans share special things with him. I’m gonna cry in class.
The way Michael cares about the fans, about the band, about everyone is so special. It makes everyone feel special and feel like they belong. 5SOS is a safe place and Michael Clifford is here to keep it that way.
I love him because he (and the rest of 5SOS) got me through a very rough time. They do that for a lot of people. Michael cares about other people so much, it’s so pure and the way he loves other people makes him lovable. Also he has cool dogs.
I’ve never really had any Twitter or real life interactions with Michael but he has still helped me in so many ways! High school was a hard time for me. I was sick all of the time and was absent a lot. It was hard for me to keep close friends because I was never around. I was lonely for at least my first two years of HS and I hated it. When I found 5SOS I quickly became obsessed. Michael specifically was my favorite because I loved his personality. Watching Keeks and Youtubevideos became my favorite past time when I was home alone and watching Michael videos really helped keep me positive!
I love him because his positive, goofy, and pure vibes truly radiate, making him very personable and lovable!
Michael has always meant so much to me, but in a different way than the other three. Michael reminds me so much of my little brothers. Their innocence and childlike wonder, their love for music and what they do, and their love for the people in their life.
I love Michael because he gave my little brothers a role model and idol. Both of my brothers have quite a few medical problems, including Autism. They grew up feeling very frustrated in not having a way to really express themselves. Luckily they always looked up to me and copied whatever I was doing. So since I was into 5SOS, so were they. And soon enough 5sos became their favorite band. My brothers fell in love with Michael, his dyed hair, and quircky-ness. They quickly wanted to be just like him. Because of Michael, my brothers have found music as their outlet. They even learned how to play “Amnesia” as a Christmas present to me one year. So all I can say is, Thank You. You not only saved me, but my brothers as well. And I can never repay you for that.
Just in case we didn’t say it enough… what’s one more time?
We love you, Michael! We are so grateful for everything that you and the boys do for us fans. Nothing goes unnoticed. We wish you the very happiest of birthdays! Give extra cuddles to Crystal, Southy, and Moose for all of us!
5 Seconds of Summerare celebrating the fourth birthday of their sophomore album, Sounds Good, Feels Good. And we’re here to tell you that it still sounds just as good.
5SOS‘ album hit number one in eight countries, making it their first number one album in the UK. This album also solidified their placement on the US charts, being the first band to have their first two full-length albums debut at number one. Rock Sound praised the album, even ranking it 31 on their Top 50 Albums of 2015.
But no chart placement or accolades, nor critical reception could ever compare to what really made this album special; the fans. This album somehow just came out at the right time for just about everyone. For the band, for the fans, for the world. With songs like “Outer Space/Carry On,” “Jet Black Heart,” and “Invisible,” this album touches our souls in different ways. It doesn’t matter which is your go to cry song or which is the one you listen to on repeat when it feels like the world is heavy on your shoulders – Sounds Good Feels Good was a gift to fans all over.
The album came out during a dark time for guitarist, Michael Clifford, who has since been open about his struggle with mental illness. The third single, “Jet Black Heart” has proven to be important to him, and the fans. The music video shows clips of fans from different parts of the world, all of their stories posted to the official 5SOS website.
As we approach the four year anniversary of the album, we look back on some of the best parts of it. Fans are able to reminisce and share their favorite memories through hashtags on Twitter, such as #4YearsofSGFG. They’ve started a trend of sharing their stories and personal struggles with mental health issues, giving insight to what these songs truly mean to them.
So, if you haven’t – give the album a listen. And if you have, then give it another listen. Play it full volume in your car until your speakers break, let the lyrics sink into your brain until you have a headache. Play and replay these songs, let them become the soundtrack to your life.
Don’t forget to tell us what your favorite one was!
5 Seconds of Summer started the first night of their co-headlining tour World War Joy with The Chainsmokers last week. The first show took place at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The band had dozens of fans camping out overnight to see them at the venue, and I was one of them. I mean, it was the first time they have been to Cincinnati in over three years!
The group of us also got to talk to the drummer of the band, Ashton Irwin, the night before the show. He reminded us to stay safe and to have a good night, is that not the sweetest? And every person in the overnight line were only there for 5SOS (which surprised the locals in the area).
Spending 30+ hours on the street for a band may seem like something only crazy people do… And maybe I am a crazy person… But spending time with the people I have met through this band is one of the most special experiences of my life.
We kept ourselves occupied by playing board games and making random TikTok videos. The security were amazing and wonderfully accommodating which made the entire camping experience so much better. I personally helped run the line for the majority of the time I was camping, and that in itself was no easy task. I had many people tell me the line wasn’t going to work the way we envisioned. But I held out hope that everything the security had told us the day before was still applicable to the situation.
After everything was said and done, we were let into the venue a couple of minutes after doors opened. We were given wristbands and our tickets were scanned to walk down to the pit and get to our spots. The minute I finally got barricade for my favorite band, I felt like crying. I’ve waited seven years to be close to my band and I could feel an overwhelming wave of emotions wash over me.
We sat down at the barricade and I realized I was seeing them with my best friends, which made everything a million times better. We made some small talk with the security guard in front of Calum Hood‘s mic (shout out to Jordan from U.S. Bank Arena, you’re a real one) and finally soaked everything up before the band took to the stage.
Lennon Stella started off the show at exactly 7:00pm with her 25-minute set. She is a certified angel and an incredible amazing performer. If you have the chance, definitely get to the venue early to see Lennon perform.
Although it was the first night of the tour, and her setlist wasn’t well known by the crowd, she had many fans singing the words to her songs and cheering along as she performed. If you’re looking for a reason to listen to her before your World War Joy show, or just an excuse to listen to some new music in general, this is it… She sounds exactly like she does in the studio the minute she hits the stage.
Before I knew it, the lights went down at 7:50pm, signaling 5SOSwere about to start their 50-minute set. I was one amongst 8,000 people in the venue… And alongside thousands of fans watching online through live streams of other fans. I was looking across a sea of people all smiling wide, singing along to every song 5SOS performed for us.
I even planned a fan project for the show, consisting of the first eighty people in line to wear clown noses during their opening song. I thought they might be a little thrown off by a sea of clowns, but they are always unphased by their fans coming together, even to participate in something as silly as wearing foam clown noses. After they finished the first song, it was evident they were excited for the rest of the night and excited to see how the rest of tour would play out.
Overall, 5SOSplayed a total of seventeen songs within their allotted fifty-minute time slot. They didn’t stop much to talk to the crowd like they would normally do throughout their own shows, but it was understandable given the time crunch they were performing with. Fan favorites like “Why Won’t You Love Me”, “Ghost of You”, “Waste the Night”, “Jet Black Heart” and their latest single, “Teeth”, were all performed at the U.S. Bank Arena Wednesday night.
They had the crowd in the palm of their hand their whole set, and constantly had us dancing or jumping along to their high energy songs. Everyone in the crowd, whether they were on the floor or in a seat, were up on their feet and singing along with 5 Seconds Of Summerfor the wonderful set they’d prepared for us. During their last song, “Youngblood” the security guards were even nodding their heads and singing along.
Not every person in that arena may have heard of them before the show, but they definitely all left knowing who they are. And the fans of each artist who walked into that arena knowing every word to every song shed many tears, shared many hugs and wore huge smiles throughout their entire set.
In my honest and very biased opinion, 5SOS are the best live band of our generation.
The dedication these four men put into their stage presence and production is unmatched by any other artist out there. They continuously blow their fans away with everything they do. They truly love being onstage most nights of their lives, and give back to their fans whenever they can… You’d be hard pressed to find a group of more genuine guys.
5 Seconds Of Summer are going to be around for a really long time, so if you haven’t gone to a show or at least given them a listen… What are you waiting for? I promise you that you will not regret it. Listening to them was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Be sure to check out 5SOS’s latest song “Teeth” on Apple Music and Spotify. And if you get the chance, go see them on tour with The Chainsmokers and Lennon Stella!
5SOS just released the second single off of their fourth album, and we’re ready to sink our “Teeth” into it. Have you been religiously watching the music video or streaming the song? Do you think you can step out of the vault and put your knowledge to the ultimate test? How well do YOU already know the lyrics to “Teeth”?
5SOS are officially dropping the second single off of their fourth album on Aug 21! The single, titled “Teeth,” will also feature on the 13ReasonsWhy original soundtrack for season 3.
The band dropped a teaser for the song after changing all of their social media displays. A new era brings lots of change for the band, which have said that they are pushing themselves to try something new and more or less think outside of the box. They’re adamant about creating music for everybody. (You read that right, everybody. So tell your mom, your dog, your grandma, your cousin’s pet goldfish’s girlfriend. – EVERYBODY.)
The 5SOS accounts now each sport the bright yellow logo, with the Instagram having matching yellow icons for their highlights. The band’s Twitter account has the artwork as their header, with a pinned tweet linking fans to their page – where you can preorder “Teeth.”
This doesn’t mean that we’re saying goodbye to the sweaty vault cult just yet, AshtonIrwin promised fans via Twitter that every single would have a vault version. So we’ll be trapped in there for quite some time, considering this is only the second single off their album. The drummer has confirmed that this single is one of his favorites from the album, and we can rejoice in the fact that it’s only a few days away. Hallelujah.
Don’t forget that you can catch 5SOS on tour with TheChainsmokers this fall! They might be coming to a city near you, so you better hurry up and check before all the tickets sell out. Or all of their teeth fall out.
5 Seconds of Summerjust dropped a re-imagined version of their most recent single, “Easier,” on all streaming platforms. The version was previously released via YouTube on Jul 5, 2019. It only took the band a month to bring “The Vault” to streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify.
The re-imagined version of “Easier” is more rock-based than the original, and fans are eating it up. This version was originally teased in the sneak peaks of the official music video, but was then opted out for the pop version. Ashton Irwin, drummer, tweeted in reference to the song’s different version.
When the single initially dropped back in May, fans were skeptical that it would sound good in a live rendition. Though the band did play it live during their radio stops and at a couple of festivals; it’s safe to say that we can expect to hear the Vault version played live from now on. — And it won’t end there, either!
“Easier” isn’t the only Vault version we’re going to be hearing from 5SOS. In fact, Irwin mentions that every single will have a re-imagined version. Could this mean we’re getting a Live From the Vault EP? We’re sure hoping so!
And while it’s technically not a new single, it will be enough to hold us over until 5SOS drop their next single on Aug 23. The single, currently titled “Track 1” on iTunes, will be released as part of the 13 Reasons Whyseason 3 soundtrack. Shortly after the release of the new single, 5SOS will be hitting the road for their co-headlining tour alongside TheChainsmokers. Can September 22 come any faster? We’re all waiting anxiously.
Until then, you can go listen to “Easier (Live From the Vault)” – which is out EVERYWHERE now – here.
