Dream Theater: Paralyzed Distance over Time

Dream Theater

A progressive metal band, strong tastes are reflected in Dream Theater music videos. The band itself consists of John Myung, John Petrucci, James LaBrie, Jordan Rudess, and Mike Mangini, calling Boston, Massachusetts their place of origin. To this date they have released fourteen albums with Distance over Time taking that fourteenth spot.

Not many go for animation, but in their third single off the album, “Paralyzed” featured full animation, as well as hints of Japanese influence. The whole video screams dystopian, with city scenes pulled straight out of Blade Runner (1982) or Blade Runner 2049 (2017). Oh and did we forget to mention A.I.?

The music itself begins with deep guitar and drums that will hammer at your soul before the first lyric rings. We also recommend you keep watching because later in the piece is a guitar solo that feels too right.

Between the music and breath taking visuals you’re in for a treat that will leave your heart racing. Go give it a watch.

Oh and did we mention they’re touring? Check these guys out live here! You can thank us later.

Walk Off The Earth, a classic choice off the YouTube artist list. The band consists of Gianni Nicassio, Ryan Marshall, Joel Cassady, and Sarah Blackwood using everything from ukulele to theremin. They’ve been fairly quiet lately, so to see this in the line-up we jumped at the chance to listen and let’s just say … wow. We can’t wait for the album to drop on October 25th.

The music is uplifting and laid back. It really shows what the band itself needs after going through such a rough year. If you need a soft hug and a pick me up this is the song for you. They’ll be there for you!
So if you’re wanting to check them out in the flesh they’re touring August through November, and their newest single is available to stream on all platforms: HERE

Cairo Gold’s “Type of Woman” is a track that is different, uplifting, and gives any woman the confidence they need. Here, we’re all for woman empowerment and working hard, and Gold successfully delivers the message while bringing gorgeous vocals, confidence, and slight sex appeal.
Independence also plays a role in her single, stating “If you’re with her, it’s not because she needs you, it’s because she wants you.” The type of woman she described in her statement with Billboard is a type that all women strive to be, and it will help inspire them even more. PERIOD! This song is a must-have for your girl power playlist – we all need a compilation of our motivational music, am I right? Her newest single is available for stringing on every platform, which you can access: HERE

New Dialogue coming at you! With light blending vocals from Ela Kitapci and Taylor Morrow complimented by their bandmates Jason Rodriguez, Michael Sevilla, and Jeff Badagilacca playing these songs will be sure to soothe. The perfect coffee shop soundtrack we invite you to sit down, have a cup and give them a listen.

Dreamy visuals or taking simplistic to a new minimum, “Fake Smile” brings with it mellow tunes coupled with lyrics that ache. The video only adds on with the muted tones, low purple accent light, and warehouse set up.
This group is bringing their melancholy vibrations to you all through September with their last show happening in October. They will be touring with Meg&Dia the first half finishing off the tour with lovelytheband. And if you can’t make it just give their EP a listen: HERE.

Twin XL, an alt-pop trio from Los Angeles, is giving us a whole new kind of bop with their debut single “Good.” With musical influences from old school hip-hop to alt-rock, Twin XL’s music brings that summer feel that anyone can jam to. Their EP How To Talk To Strangers makes us want to roll our car windows down and turn our volume all the way up.

To start off, wow! Paper Jackets has a new song “Girl” and if you haven’t heard it or seen the video… do it now! With a deep driving bass backing it up, it’s totally up our alley. Everyone wants to be famous, right? This takes that notion and gives it a loving nudge.

Paper Jackets is a 6 piece LA-based band. Now, you may think that’s a lot to handle but we promise that just means there is more to love. Their style brings together an old gaudy glamour with rock potential which comes out stunningly in their music video. Welcome to the Dollhouse. Pink is the color ladies and gents so mark down your Wednesdays.

Not going to lie, we were a bit taken aback when listening at first but this quickly becomes a tune that sticks in your head. The Evening has a new song and music video for “Obsession.” We can definitely see this being our next obsession. The music video itself screams night clubs grooves. With a hypnotic voice, Kinnie Lane mesmerizes listeners like a siren calling to sailors. Between Kinnie’s voice and Taylor Larson’s masterful command of instrumentation, The Evening has a lot going for them. Larson has had a hand in engineering and mixing for bands such as I See Stars and Asking Alexandria. Be on the lookout for an album in the future!

The Unlikely Candidates

The Unlikely Candidates are ironically the most likely candidates for your next party playlist. Their latest release “Novocaine” will have you flying high in no time.  The lyric video is out now and trust me you won’t want to pass it up. The song follows the releases of “Oh My Lord” “Bells” and “Strange Love.” After listening to them you’ll be saying “This is the ‘Best I Ever Had’!”. “Novocaine” is catchy, fun and will have you hooked on it in one listen.

The quintet has been around the block touring with bands like The Offspring and Fall Out Boy and they’ve started to build a solid foundation for themselves after their most recent tour with Brick + Morter. The Unlikely Candidates have been flooding the music scene with tracks featured on ABC’s American Idol and Fox’s The Four. These 5 musicians will have you at the edge of your seat and cheering like you’re watching a sports game. Seriously, you probably have heard them during a sports game since they’ve been named both FOX sports and MLB’s Artist Of The Month. With all of that, you can’t deny this band is a home run!

Spirit Animal

Spirit Animal, a great name to embody the amazing vibe these dudes bring to the table. Taking it back to the days of color and spandex, their song “HYDR8” brings to mind those old workout videos our parents and grandparents probably watched. Unlike our grandparents though, with a song this good, you will forget you are actually working out. The band consisting of Steve Cooper, Cal Stamp, Paul Michel, and Ronan Evran are Brooklyn based. With humble beginnings, their first tour was made possible by donors and fans on Kickstarter along with the incentive of Steve Cooper’s cooking. If you don’t think you know them you can check out their hit song “The Black Jack White” which was featured on an episode of NCIS: NY.

Ameliarose

Ameliarose gives us a super relatable new single, “Uneven.” This is the indie-pop artist’s second single and many have compared her to artists such as Kimbra and Lorde. Filled with vintage harmonies and her known “danceable melancholy” vibe, the song opens with Ameliarose singing almost acapella before switching to a groovy beat as she delivers lyrics about an unsteady relationship that we’re sure many can relate to.

The bassline will drag you in and the dial-up sounds will keep you engaged with KITTEN’s new single, “Memphis.” The track has frontwoman, Chloe Chaidez, almost speaking the lyrics in a rhythmic tone that will have you in a daze throughout the track as she recalls memories and looks for the meaning of home. “It’s a song that questions the nature of home, and ultimately determines that it’s the people you love who give a place meaning.” This is the first song off of the band’s EP, Honeymoon Phase, set to release in October.

Reminding us that it “doesn’t matter where (we) came from, just where (we) end up,” Hoodie Allen delivers some dope rhymes on his opening track for his newest album, Whatever USA, and we couldn’t be happier with his come back.

This nine-track album features Allen’s newest singles “Hell of A Time,” ” Never Going Back,” and “Come Around (featuring Christian French).” Allen says that the album was a rediscover process for him.“This album was such a labor of love and a rediscovery process of my true self.”And he dedicated it to anyone who feels stuck but they keeping moving forward no matter what! “This one is for anybody with a dream. Say goodbye to the place you came from and welcome to Whatever, USA.

Vibe with Hoodie Allen this fall as he makes his way across the US for the Whatever, USA tour!

It Bends

Understated quirk appears to be It Bends’ theme and their debut single, “Baggies,” definitely delivers that. Amy Winehouse is reincarnated in vocalist Tace McNamara. The haunting track leaves listeners slightly unsettled but in all the best ways and definitely wanting more.

Like many of us, Lisa finds comfort within her music. While dealing with personal struggles of depression and self-doubt, she channeled all of her emotions into her most recent single. “1445” is the push and pull of trying to gain her footing while trying to find the balance between learning from past mistakes while reflecting on them and moving past them. The track shows us an admirable level of vulnerability as Lisa begins to find her confidence once again.

Bringing those 2004 “Leave, Get Out” vibes to the forefront in 2019, Disney-discovered rising star, Elle Winter, discusses toxic relationships in her new single “Cave In.” After releasing music independently, with no label backing, and still finding success, the singer-songwriter signed with Red Music. She’s since released several tracks, all adding to her ever-growing traction on her way to becoming a household name. “Cave In” is that moment you choose yourself over a toxic relationship. It’s recognizing that something isn’t good for you and knowing things may be different if the other person had just owned their behavior, but also deciding it’s time to move on.

Elle is the MDRN MAG Spotlight Artist this week! Check out her interview with us!
