A New Era of Fortnite

Fortnite

On Sunday, Season X came to a rapid end when players were plunged into a black hole. But don’t worry, you’ll be able to Floss on the opposing players again as soon as Fortnite is back with season 11.

The End

Players logged in on Sunday to play in an event titled “The End”. This event was to act as a bridge into the highly anticipated Season 11 of Fortnite. During the event, the meteor that had been static above the island throughout Season X finally hit the island sending the entire map into a black hole.

Since the meteor hit on Sunday, the game has been impossible to play. When going to the main loading screen, the entire screen gets sucked into that same black hole. However, you can play a fun little game of Fortnite themed Space Invaders if you enter the Konami code (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start).

It is known that this is happening due to scheduled maintenance of the game in preparation for season 11. But, players are now coming up with theories about what the next season could hold. However, Epic Games is keeping their lips sealed as far as what that season holds.

Kingdom Hearts III DLC Trailer Set for September 9

Kingdom Hearts III is set to have a new trailer for the downloadable content “Re:Mind.” Square Enix will release the trailer on September 9 at 11AM EST / 8AM PST. “Re:Mind” is due out this winter, and if you missed the official trailer for it back in June you can watch it here.

There’s not too much known about the upcoming DLC, other than that we’ll finally be able to play as Roxas again. The official Twitter for Kingdom Hearts shared that a new trailer will release next week. What it could contain… we’re not really sure. What we ARE hoping for is some clarity, or maybe just a voiceover so it looks like Square put in any kind of effort. At the very least, we really want a release date.

It’s extremely likely that a release date will be given only because it’s supposed to launch sometime this year and we’re running out of days. The DLC was revealed earlier this year, the trailer in June, and that’s all we know about “Re:Mind” so far. Fans have a theory that Square Enix will show off the Kingdom Hearts III DLC at Tokyo Game Show 2019.

Kingdom Hearts III is available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The upcoming DLC is set to release at some point this winter. For PlayStation users, you can pick up a copy of Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far at any local store that carries video games if you wanna keep up with all the action. Xbox users, we’re so sorry.

Overwatch Rumored to Come to Nintendo Switch

The Amazon listing for an Overwatch Switch case may have just leaked that the game will be seeing a different platform sometime soon. The carrying case was pulled from Amazon‘s server shortly after it was initially posted.

The black and orange case sported the Overwatch logo and the accessory was noted to be ‘officially licensed by Nintendo and Blizzard Entertainment.’ PowerA briefly listed the carrying case on Amazon before the product was removed, though pictures were posted to Twitter and Resetera.

There have been rumors for quite some time about whether or not Blizzard would take their game to the next platform, but they were just that; rumors. If the carrying case gives any sort of insight, players can look forward to a different way of playing Overwatch. (And being able to play the game on the go.) Blizzard has not officially announced a port for Switch, though game director Jeff Kaplan addressed the possibility in 2017.

Kaplan was optimistic but said that the adaptation would be ‘challenging.’ In a Reddit AMA session, Kaplan stated, “Getting the game on the Switch is very challenging for us. But we’re always openminded about exploring possible platforms.” This follows BlizzardsDiablo 3 Eternal Collection advancing to the Switch in 2018.

With Blizzcon 2019 set for November, only time will tell if players will finally get to see their favorite heroes on the handheld device. (Though a Reddit user is now claiming that the release date is set for October 18.)

Final Fantasy VIII Leads Players to Switch

At E3 this year, Square Enix‘s live event confirmed suspicions that Final Fantasy VIII Remastered would come to the Switch. The release date has finally been announced. The title will be released to the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms on September 3.

Final Fantasy VIII is based off of the 1999 PlayStation original. The remastered game has new graphic enhancements, along with brand new options and mechanics that make the game run smoother. The players will now be able to customize their gameplay experience.

Square Enix dropped a release date reveal trailer on their YouTube channel. Get ready to reunite with friends and define the course of time; this time YOU decide how you play with Final Fantasy VIII Remastered.

The remastered edition enhances the original aspect and adventures of the game, along with new features. We can look forward to:

  • Enhanced visuals. Several characters, enemies, and objects have been refined.
  • Battle Assist. Activate this booster in order to max out your HP and ATB bars, trigger Limit Breaks at any time. You will lose all HP when you get hit by a critical attack that gives more damage than your HP, or by lethal damage.
  • No encounters. This prohibits random encounters. Event battles still have to be completed in order for the story to advance, but you can explore without encountering enemies.
  • 3x speed boost. If you’re looking to speed up the game, or at the very least speed through easy battles, this feature is perfect. It accelerates time by a factor of 3, allowing you to get somewhere in a hurry. This feature won’t work with select scenes and movies.

Final Fantasy 8 is the Best Looking Game Here

The Final Fantasy 8 reboot has been a long time coming, but Square Enix gave fans a preview of what they’re in store for. Except, this time it was in the form of a meme.

Instead of letting us drool over another trailer, or giving us another look at the new visuals – Square decided it was more appropriate to give us exactly what we wanted. Final Fantasy recreated a fan favorite scene, and when we say ‘favorite’ we’re using it loosely. PS1 Squall was not looking too good. For reference, this is what we’re talking about:

Oh, how the times have changed. With higher resolution character models, and new very visible faces, the game developers did not come to play. The preview below gives us insight on what’s to come.

The Final Fantasy 8 remaster follows the news of developers recreating the seventh game within the series. Game developers for the seventh game have said that their focus is to modernize the RPG classic. This means that it was not to ‘just make a one-for-one copy.’ They plan to reimagine the first installment and delve deeper into the nostalgia. Yoshinori Kitase, producer, says, “we wanted to go beyond the original and tell the story in a much deeper way, write a much more modern and fresh game experience.” The remake is confirmed to focus more on the characters, their storylines, and the development of each of their personalities.

Final Fantasy 8 remaster will be released on September 3, 2019, and available to users on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Final Fantasy 7 remake will be released on March 3, 2020, and available to users on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Funko Releases New Kingdom Hearts POPs

Funko officially have new pop figures in the works! Now, let’s get one thing straight: MDRN MAG LOVES Funko Pop Figures.

Though this launch had been rumored for quite some time now, we were all super excited to see how the new figures came out. Back in February, there was speculation concerning the fate of the figures, which would mark the first ever Axel and Aqua Pops to be introduced. Two waves of the Pop figures for Kingdom Hearts 3 were released earlier in the year, but they’re getting ready to drop the newest wave. You read that right – Funko is back with a brand new wave of Kingdom Hearts Pops!

This includes Sora with the Ultima Weapon, Kairi in her new outfit, Aqua, and Axel/Lea. And while we’re at the edge of our seats, pulling out our wallets, and giving these figures some major heart eyes… Unfortunately, this comes with some bad news. These figures aren’t set to release until NOVEMBER 2019. (You can still preorder them, though.)

There are some exclusives, as well. Be sure to keep an eye out for Dark Aqua with Keyblade (BoxLunch exclusive), Axel/Lea with Keyblade (Hot Topic exclusive), and Kairi with Keyblade (Funko Specialty Series.) If history repeats itself, which it tends to, you might be able to snag a Kairi at your local GameStop!

Funko, if you’re listening, we really want a Roxas Pop figure. And a Dark Riku, Replica Riku, Vanitas unmasked, Ventus, Naminé etc. We’ll have our people contact your people.

Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Colorful Gay Agenda

No, this isn’t about Soriku. If you’re a big fan of Kingdom Hearts, you’ve probably already seen this feature. Within the realm of the Toy Box world, based on Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story, you can find Andy‘s bedroom. Specifically, you can find colorful wooden letter blocks.

After meeting Woody, Buzz, Rex, and friends, the rag-tag trio of Sora, Donald, and Goofy can explore the world. Fans – who frankly have too much time on their hands – have realized that they can move the letter blocks.

You know when people say “a picture speaks a thousand words,” well this is one of those times.

Since finding this out, players have recreated the picture themselves. Courtesy of Square Enix throwing in the new selfie feature on Soras gummi phone, we’ve been blessed with all of this content. (But we still wanna know who taught Sora how to selfie. Also, if he taught Riku?)

While this may seem like an easy task to some, others have expressed their difficulties. Despite ‘gay’ being a three-letter word, it can be a time consuming task. This is mainly due to Donald and Goofy knocking down the blocks as you work as Sora to display them. There are an array of tweets from different players expressing how dedicated you have to be to accomplish this, some even taking upwards of an hour to spell the word out.

We don’t think this one counts, since it’s against the door. But we’ll let it slide just this once because gay rights!

Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently available on PS4 and Xbox One.

Final Fantasy 14 Developers Plan to Condense Main Storyline

Square Enix is no stranger to sometimes overbearing and overwhelming storylines. The game developers for Final Fantasy 14 are now working on condensing the main quest for 14‘s base game, A Realm Reborn.

The Final Fantasy series is known for certain storylines within games being a bit of a slog, but this one seems to be different. A Realm Reborn left many fans displeased. The developments were announced on Wednesday during a livestream that was shortly after translated from Japanese to English. The livestream was translated by a Square Enix forum community rep.

The FFXIV team confirmed the main quest will be shortened. This comes after players have been getting multiple content updates, along with expansions that make the main quest longer than any game in the series before it. “We’re working on adjusting the A Realm Reborn main scenario to be more compact, and are aiming for patch 5.3,” the update from Square Enix forums reads. Many believe this is their effort to get people playing Shadowbringers, as patch 5.3 is months away.

In the meantime, here’s what you can look out for in patch 5.1

The first Shadowbringers beast tribe quest line, the extreme version of final Shadowbringers trial, and changes to crafting and gathering systems are among the new update. Along comes part one of the YoRHa Nier alliance raids, and circles; a new feature for community groups that are less restrictive. Developers also took into account what the fans had been asking for, and confirmed that they are already working on some requests. For example, facial hair for male Hyur character, more hairstyles, increased armory space, the ability to preview battle voice options when making characters, and Y’shtola‘s Black Mage outfit as a glamour item.
