Social Animals Reminds Us to Live Our “Best Years”

social-animals-best-years

Giving us a look into what it’s like to be a musician, Social Animals opens up about life on the road with their new single, “Best Years.” This is the band’s second single after coming back from 2017 and it gives off completely different vibes from their single they released in November, “Bad Things.”

“Best Years” reminds us to be in the moment and to pause in our busy lives to reflect and take in our surroundings. Looking back on their time on the road during tour, the band reminisces about how relationships are paused and people eventually move on. Showing the “ugly” side of tour life, the lyrics breakaway that glamourization that can be so easily thrown on.

“When you’re always leaving/ Nobody cares if you stay,” playing to the fact that after so many times, it’s normal so no one really cares. “The first time you leave, there are tears when you go and tears when you return. The tenth time, nobody asks where you’re going. The hundredth time, nobody cares,” said frontman Dedric Clark

Take a look at the visuals for Social Animals‘ newest single, “Best Years” below!

Megan Thee Stallion and Normani Shine in New Video

Joining together for an amazing collaboration to start off the new year, Megan Thee Stallion and Normani teamed up in turning an iconic anthem for women into a hot track for the new Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) movie. The Houston natives released “Diamonds” as a single off the soundtrack, Birds of Prey: The Album, and man did they shine in the new video.

The song was perfect for the duo, which makes sense because it was written by no other than Megan and Normani, along with Tayla Parx and Louis Bell. The new track takes inspiration from Marilyn Monroe‘s infamous, “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” performed in the 50’s hit film, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes but takes a nice twist with lyrics like, “All the best things in life come for free/ But don’t you think that applies to me.”

Visuals for the song fit the Birds of Prey movie to a T, with exclusive scenes from the movie itself and its star, Margot Robbie, as Harley Quinn thrown in so effortlessly it looked as if it were all from the same scene.

Catch Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) out in theaters on February 7th!

30 Talks New Single “Met Too Young”

30

Getting ready for the new year, 30 is back with another single, “Met Too Young,” that he dropped earlier this month, and we go the chance to talk to him about his music journey, touring and what’s to come in 2020!

Hi 30, thanks so much for talking with us! And just to give our readers a little bit more information on you, can you tell us how you got started in music?

For sure! I started off writing. Before I wrote songs I wrote short stories or poems. I was probably like five or six. I remember writing my mom a book of poems. Then I started getting more and more into music, so I kept writing and finally got a chance to record. I’ve done it every day since then.

How does it feel to have thousands of monthly Spotify listeners and knowing fans are connecting with the music?

It’s so dope. You spend years and years where basically no one is hearing what you’ve spent hours working on, and then finally people start paying attention. My first dream was to make someone’s favorite song. To have people DM me telling me that every day is so rewarding. I gotta focus on appreciating that more though… I’m constantly focusing on what’s next.

Your music crosses a few genres to create your unique sound, if you had to describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard your music what would you say?

I always say it’s a fusion of Hip-Hop, Alternative, and Pop. It’s definitely hard to describe, especially cause one song you hear from me could be 100% Hip-Hop and another could be me singing the whole time. But yeah, it’s just a fusion. I’m pretty versatile I like to think.

Congrats on your newest single, “Met Too Young,” where’d you get the inspiration for this track?

Thank you! It’s about a girl that I had a relationship with. Everything felt so right and we were so into each other, but being at our age we were just in two very different places in our life. Distance was a factor, music was a factor, just everything all at once. So I felt like I met the right girl at the wrong time in my life.

How has this track differed from some of your previous singles?

It’s so pop. Even EDM leaning. I’ve never done anything like it. But that’s what I’m saying… If I feel like I can do it, then I will.

We heard you spent earlier this year on tour with Futuristic and Gianni & Kyle, what’s your favorite part of being on tour?

Just getting to play in front of new crowds. My favorite place to be is in the studio or on stage. Also seeing cities I’ve never been to is so nuts. It makes me really sit back and appreciate that music has taken me here.

Any city you stopped in that you can’t wait to get back to? Any place you can’t wait to perform in?

I always love playing in Boston. It was the first city I ever played in, and it’s always dope going back. Next time I go back I want to headline and sell it out though.

Do you have any tours or shows coming up?

For sure! We’re working on getting a whole new schedule ready for 2020. I also just sold out my first show in my hometown which is so crazy. That’s on Saturday.

What can fans look forward too?

Lots and lots of new music. More shows, merch. We’re taking it to a new level.

What do you think is different from MDRN day fans and fans from earlier decades?

I think smaller artists have much more of a lane now. It’s dope cause with home studios and independent distribution, artists can get themselves poppin on their own. So in terms of fans, I think they really love having smaller artists that they’re into and can support. I’m so grateful for my little core of fans that are showing love.

The American Music Awards Gave a Night of Surprises

american music awards

The 47th American Music Awards just happened, and it was definitely one for the books! Full of legendary performers and music deserved awards, the night was one to remember. Opening up the show, Selena Gomez graced the stage for her first live performance in a long time, and her performance was followed by this year’s host, Ciara who performed her new song “Melanin,” where she brought out Lala Anthony. And these were just the first in the night of amazing performances.

Ke$ha brought out Big Freedia as she sang her newest song, “Raising Hell,” and also surprised everyone by singing, “Tik Tok” at the end of her performance. Post Malone continued the night of on-stage collaborations as he brought out Ozzy Osbourne, Travis Scott and Watt to the stage during his set.

In line with the amazing performances, Halsey gave us a very colorful rendition of “Graveyard,” as her artistic side arose to her throwing paint all across the all-white stage set she began with.

Legends graced the AMA stage last night as well, with Toni Braxton singing her famous hit, “Un-Break My Heart,” celebrating it’s win many years ago, and Shania Twain singing a medley of her favorite tracks to close out the show.

In her highly anticipated performance, Taylor Swift was able to perform songs, new and old, with a perfectly crafted medley showcasing some of her best-known works. Swift reminded us why she deserved, Artist of the Decade with an amazing medley of “The Man,” “Love Story,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Blank Space,” “Shake it Off” and “Lover.” She even brought out some special guests, like Halsey and Camila Cabello for “Shake it Off,” and ballet dancers Misty Copeland and Craig Hall stealing the spotlight during “Lover.”

Christina Aguilera and a Great Big World gave us another amazing collaboration that they debuted a new single on the award show last night entitled, “Fall On Me.” Aguilera brought amazing vocals as expected and they slowed the show perfectly.

Many artists were surprised by their wins last night and thanked the show for being more about the fans than the industry. Check out a list of last night’s winners.
