Just in time for Halloween, the trailer for The Grudge has dropped! The film takes place in the same timeline as the 2004 film of the same name, and will also act as a re-imagining of the American film series, which is based on the Japanese Ju-On films.
Synopsis: “A single mother and young detective, Muldoon (Riseborough), discovers that a suburban house is cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death. Now, she runs to save herself and her son from demonic spirits from the cursed house in her neighborhood.”
Produced by horror icon Sam Raimi (Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe), this one is sure to not let us down. Director Nicolas Pesce says this version of the grudge is “really f**ked up.”
And he knows that there will be people calling this just another remake, so at a discussion panel he states,
The Grudge is like a virus; it’s super-contagious. So the fact that it would stay in the tiny city of Tokyo is unrealistic. It exists in Asia, Europe, Africa, in America, because it has spread. I know a lot of people think this is a remake of a remake, which is isn’t. This movie exists in the same world as the Japanese movie, we’re just adding a chapter.
The film stars John Cho (Harold & Kumar), Andrea Riseborough (Birdman), and the horror icon that is Lin Shaye (Insidious, A Nightmare On Elm Street)
The Grudge is set to be released January 3rd, 2020.
