You and I Have 9 Years of History: A Look Back at One Direction

You and I Have 9 Years of History: A Look Back at One Direction

The band account, dormant for a year, but we constantly check back as we sit around and anxiously hope that the former One Direction members mention something about the 9 year anniversary of the band. While we’re waiting why don’t we take a nice look back on all the memories that they shared as one of the biggest boy bands in the world!

This is literally going to be us for the whole day, don’t talk to us.

On this precious day, 9 years ago, on the stage of The X Factor UK, One Direction was formed and the world was never left the same. Simon Cowell changed the lives of 5 boys on that day, a day that now seems so long ago. Five strangers became intertwined forever when Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne were placed in a group together after being eliminated in the solo rounds.

The English-Irish boyband topped global charts, broke numerous records and took home tons of awards during the six years they were together as a band.

Here are some of the records One Direction broke in their time as a band that will make them forever timeless.

  • The first group to debut at No. 1 with their first four albums in the U.S.
  • The first U.K. group to debut at No. 1 in the U.S. with their debut album
  • The highest debut by a U.K. group on the U.S. singles chart
  • The most popular dance game track
  • Most followers on Twitter for a music group (Guinness World Records 2016)
  • Most subscribers for a band on YouTube (Guinness World Records 2016)

1D also surpassed a Beatles record for the most top 10 Hot 100 debuts among groups.

To break these records, the band gave the world five amazing albums. Up All Night, Midnight Memories, Take Me Home, Four and Made in the A.M. These records, of course, are not including their 242 awards won from their 366 award nominations. And of those awards are multiple Brits, Billboard Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, American Music Awards, Artist of the Year Awards, American Music Awards, and Teen Choice Awards.

Along with their studio albums, One Direction had 4 very successful world tours with their last one being the On the Road Again Tour in 2015. This was also the year that band member, Malik decided to part ways with the band, prompting the last studio album, an indefinite hiatus and lots of tears. Little did Directioners know, this would be the last year of One Direction.

Directioners have already taken to twitter to share their moments and memories of the band being together. And these tweets are making us super emo might we add.
