It’s hard to believe that this 16-year-old heartthrob.
Somehow turned into this literal rock god.
But the journey here has been quite a ride. We can’t thank Anne Twist enough for suggesting for her son, Harry Styles, audition for The X Factor UK on April 11th 2010, and from that day a piece of history was started. With his rendition of “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder, Styles stole the hearts of thousands watching from home.
Advancing to the boot camp but falling short the singer was cut before the judge’s houses stage in the competition. The decision was then made by Simon Cowell to put together a group consisting of Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan.
Time on X-Factor
Being the great man he is, Styles even came up with the legendary name, One Direction. Something that will be remembered for years to come (or exactly 9 years later for that matter.)
Although the group finished The X Factor UK competition in 3rd place, they won the hearts of the UK, and it skyrocketed from there. By the beginning of 2011, the band was signed to Cowell‘s, Syco Records. And in September of that same year their debut single, “What Makes You Beautiful” went number one on the UK singles charts.
Time With One Direction
With five albums under their belts, One Direction topped global charts and has won 242 of the 366 awards they have been nominated. With hits like, “Story of my Life,” “Drag Me Down,” “Little Things,” and “Best Song Ever” the band definitely left their mark on the music world and the hearts of teen girls worldwide.
Releasing their last album, Made in the A.M., in November of 2015, the band went on an ’18-month’ hiatus and have yet to return. This break prompted the solo careers of the band’s members with Styles releasing his debut solo album in May of 2017.
Sign of the Times
This era will forever be remembered, especially April 7th of 2017, when Styles released his first solo single, “Sign of the Times.” Peaking number one on the UK Singles Chart this rock ballad was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the best songs of the year.
From September of that year to July of 2018 Styles went on a worldwide, headlining tour performing his work on 89 shows. Harry Styles: Live on Tour had almost 1 million in ticket sales and Styles also donated $1.2 million in charity donations from profits surrounding the tour.
Harry Styles, The Actor
With the release of his album underway, Styles also made his film debut in July of 2017 in Christopher Nolan‘s, Dunkirk. Sharing the screen with a star-studded cast Styles plays a solider that is part of the evacuation at Dunkirk during World War II.
Praised for his performance on the film, it may have opened up the path of acting for the rockstar. Styles is now said to be in talks to possibly play Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
Whether another film role or another rock-filled single, fans are on the edge of their seats waiting for Styles‘s next move. It’s amazing to see the growth in just 9 years and we can’t wait to see what else he has in store moving forward!
